The winter of 2022-23 saw very cold temperatures that damaged many of the primary buds and killed vines in many vineyards. At Little Farm we didn't fair to badly. Initially, our crop was only down about 30% from the cold weather. But then the starlings struck. With little food in the valley from the cold devastation to vineyards and orchards, the birds went in a frenzy, and despite netting the grapes and deploying flicker tape to scare them off, they rampaged through the vines eating about half of what we had. So in the end, we ended up with about 1\/3 of a normal vintage. The small clusters of Riesling grapes were foot trodden, lightly pressed and racked to neutral barrels to ferment naturally and then age for around 10 months on the lees to build texture, mouthfeel and complexity. The ripe vintage resulted in the wine naturally halting fermentation at 13.5% alcohol with around 10g\/L of residual sugar. This with a TA of 9.4 and pH of 2.67 makes for a very powerful, intense yet balanced wine. The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered in August 2022.\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Helvetica; font-size: small;\"\u003eMedium lemon in colour, with aromas of chalk, ripe apple, honey, savoury lees notes, white peach, pear, pomello and lemon.
